Wildcat Swimming and Diving Pick Up Two Wins Over La Salle and Seton Hall

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Villanova University swimming and diving programs competed this past weekend walking away with two victories for the women and a pair of losses for the men. The women won all but four events that they were entered for while the men only picked up two wins both in the diving portion of the meet.

Highlights of the meet were a pair of three victory performances by senior Jesse Radtke and sophomore Sarah Czar also junior Lindsay Davis was able to win both the one meter and three meter events in diving.

The Wildcats faced off against both Seton Hall University and host La Salle University in the season's first tri-meet. The Women defeated SHU 102-38 while handing La Salle an 88-52 loss. The men fell to SHU 103-37 and to La Salle 110-37.

VU opened up the meet with a tight women's 200 yard medley relay victory. The difference between first and second was just one hundredth of a second. The members of the winning team were senior Tiffany Brown, junior Brienne von Rosendahl, sophomore Carly Beck and Radtke.

The women would continue their hot streak in the next event taking first and second in the 1000 free with junior Kaitlynn Osborn getting the win and sophomore Shannon Dwyer coming in second. The third women's event was the 200 free and everything stayed the same with Czar picking up the W while junior Marlee Morden finished up in third.

The win-streak came to an end in the 100 backstroke but Brown was able to pick up a second place finish to go with her win in the relay. VU would get the winning feeling once again as they finished first and second in the 100 yard breaststroke. Von Rosendahl would pick up her second victory of the day while junior Kerri McIlvain came in second.

 

 

A pair of freshman would combine for the next one, two punch as Liz Stetson and Astrid Armgarth went one and two in the 200 yard butterfly. Radtke would add to her winning ways with a victory in the 50 yard freestyle which would be followed by a pair of diving events in which VU finished first.

Junior Lindsay Davis and freshman David Reynolds both took home the win in the one meter diving event. Radtke would add a second place finish to her credit in the 100 yard freestyle before Brown picked up another win in the 200 yard backstroke.

McIlvain added another second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke before Czar got another victory in the 500 yard freestyle.

The sophomore's were on display in the 100 yard butterfly as Katie O'Gorman and Beck finished first and second in the race. The final victory for the women that would count towards team points was in the three meter diving event in which Davis would go two-for-two with a win.

Senior Mike Hanne and sophomore James Styles went one and three in the men's portion of the three meter.

The final win of the day came in the 400 yard freestyle relay in which the women won but swam the event as an exhibition. On the winning team were Morden, Radtke, Czar and Dwyer.

The swimming and diving teams will return to action this Saturday, October 27 at 1 p.m. as the women take on both Richmond and Connecticut while the men battle just Connecticut.
