Tom Carlin Named Head Coach of Men's Soccer Team

Jan. 7, 2008

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro today announced the hiring of Tom Carlin as head men's soccer coach. Carlin replaces Larry Sullivan who resigned following the 2007 season after 17 years. Carlin served as Sullivan's assistant coach this past season.

"Tom is a proven head coach, has quickly developed into one of the top recruiters in Division I soccer and is a dynamic leader," said Nicastro. "In the short period of time that he has been with our program, he has consistently demonstrated his commitment to our values. We are pleased to have Tom take over the leadership of our men's soccer program."

Prior to arriving at Villanova in 2007, Carlin was the Associate Head Coach at Northwestern University from 2006-07. While at Northwestern, his duties included coordinating training sessions, overseeing the recruiting process along with scouting and administrative work. He also helped Northwestern advance to the Elite Eight of the 2006 NCAA Tournament.

Before his stop at Northwestern, he was the head men's soccer coach at Arcadia University from 2000-06. Carlin tallied a 99-23-9 record at Arcadia and led his teams to three conference titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances.

Carlin owns a B.A. in History and a M.A. in Educational Leadership from Arcadia University. As a player at Arcadia, he was a three-time first team All-Pennsylvania Athletic Conference team member from 1996-98, in addition to being a three-year captain from 1996-98.
